Do not skip the check

  • If the file is compromised, the funds are compromised.
  • Download from the project’s own site. Not a look-alike. Not a shortened link.
  • A hash is the file’s fingerprint. It must match every character.
  • A signature is the project saying that fingerprint is theirs.
  • If either check fails, delete the file and download it again.
Compare a fingerprint on Windows or Mac

Open one window, paste one line, and compare it to the fingerprint on the project’s site.

Windows

Start menu, type PowerShell, open it. Type cd and drag in the folder. Press Enter. Paste Get-FileHash .\filename -Algorithm SHA256.

Mac

Spotlight, type Terminal, open it. Type cd and drag in the folder. Press Enter. Paste shasum -a 256 filename.

  • Tails

    Airgapped live OS. Networking Disabled on every boot. Stronger on a radio-less chassis.

    ISO + signing key from the official Tails site only.

  • Sparrow Wallet 2.5.5

    This kit checks version 2.5.5 only. A newer download will not match. That is a stop, not an upgrade.

    For Tails, download sparrowwallet-2.5.5-x86_64.tar.gz. That is the Linux file. The Windows installer and the Mac installer are for the everyday computer, and that computer only watches. Do not put those installers on the USB.

  • Electrum

    Second wallet. Same seed + path must show the same addresses.

  • Ian Coleman BIP39

    Offline HTML cross-check of dice bits → 24 words.

    Official GitHub repo. Save the HTML. Open it only while offline.

  • BIP39 English wordlist

    Compare the converter’s 2048 words. Word 0 is abandon. Word 2047 is zoo.

    From bitcoin/bips. Do not use a random copy.

Verify the dice converter

Do not trust this file because it was emailed or downloaded. Check the hash, then read the logic, then test with dummy bits. Only then use it offline with real dice entropy. Never paste real bits into this website.

  1. 1. Confirm the same bytes. On Tails / Linux: sha256sum bip39_dice_converter.py. If the digest does not match, stop. Do not run that copy.
  2. 2. Read the only code that matters. clean_binary, binary_to_bytes, generate_mnemonic. Input is only 0 and 1. Fewer than 256 bits is rejected. More than 256 bits is reduced with SHA-256. Checksum is the first 8 bits of SHA-256(entropy). The 264 bits are split into 24 groups of 11. Wordlist length is 2048.
  3. 3. Known test (no real seed). Run the script offline, paste 256 zeros, press Enter. A correct 24-word BIP39 result for all-zero entropy ends with art. Cross-check the same 256 bits in an offline Ian Coleman page (Entropy type: Binary [0-1], 24 words). The words must match:
