If you are gone

The three plates are the inheritance. Any two of them can spend. One plate cannot. Leave this where a spouse can find it. Do not write the words on it.

What you leave

  • Two plates, in two different places. The third plate is the spare.
  • The wallet map, encrypted with gpg. Not a paper cipher. Not stored with every plate.
  • The path, written in the open: 2-of-3, native SegWit, m/48'/0'/0'/2'. It is not a secret.

What they do

  1. Do not type the words into a phone or a website.
  2. Do not photograph the plates.
  3. Buy a Jade from Blockstream’s own shop.
  4. Buy a BitBox from BitBox’s own shop.
  5. Put one plate into each device. Never both plates in one device.
  6. Load the map. Send a small amount first.

If the map passphrase is lost

The coins are not gone. That passphrase only hides the map. Two plates can rebuild it, because the path above is written outside the encrypted file. They still must not type the words into a phone.
